The New Zealand Government are making changes to the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act to reduce youth vaping. Starting 17 June 2025, new rules will tighten regulations on promotions, product visibility, and introduce a full ban on disposable vapes. Here’s what you need to know:

Key changes:
Ban on disposables: All disposable vapes will be banned.
Product visibility: In-store products will no longer be visible to the public.
Product images online: You can continue to shop online. No product images will be shown.
Promotions & loyalty programmes: Bans on promotions and loyalty programmes.

Will disposable vapes be banned in NZ?
Yes, starting 17th June, 2025, disposable vapes will be banned. 
This includes devices that:

• Cannot be refilled by the user (e.g., disposable vapes with non-replaceable pods or cartridges).
• Cannot be recharged by the user.

However, pod-style vapes (e.g., devices with pre-filled or refillable pods) will remain available for sale. If you are using disposable vapes like IGET Moon, Go2, or Solo disposables, we recommend transitioning to the PHIX 3000 or STELAR pod-style devices, which will still be available.

When will the VM Rewards Programme end?
The VM Rewards Programme will be ending on the 16th May, 2025.
• From 1st April, 2025 you will no longer earn Rewards points on purchases nor will it count towards $20 worth of points reward.
• You can continue to spend points online and instore until the 15th May, 2025.
We will send out reminders as the date approaches.
 

Will I be able to see images of the products online?
You can continue to shop online at www.vapemerchant.nz. However, from the 17th June we will no longer be able to show images of the products.

What changes can I expect in stores from the 17th June?
Specialist Vape Retailers (SVRs), such as Vape Merchant, must ensure products are not visible from outside their stores. Our stores may adjust their layouts slightly or use window film on the front windows to comply.

Will there be discounts and promotions from the 17th June?
All promotions, discounts, product giveaways, and rewards related to vaping products will be banned. Over the coming months we’ll be updating our range.
